Cutting Edges

What's significant about cutting edges? Why do I care so much about people on the cutting edge?

Visualize the sharp edge of a knife as it cuts through a pineapple. The cutting edge carries - and undergoes - the most pressure. It's the leading edge. It sets the direction of the slice, and leads the way through. Without it, the pineapple becomes quite a challenge to eat.

People on the cutting edge experience extreme pressures. Winds blow hardest there. There are few or no signposts, so they must create their own paths. It's risky and dangerous out there on the edge, and usually lonely. There are no guarantees of success or rescue. Leaders willing to be on the cutting edge are absolutely essential as humanity evolves into all we can be. That's why I enjoy working with visionaries, progressives, social artists and other creatives who prefer being on the cutting edge - but don't want to bleed to death.

Bottom line: cutting edges come in many forms. People who live and work there undergo severe stress and hardship no matter how passionately pursue their vision.
